Whimsical Weque
What started as a small design refresh turned into a full-scale renovation of a 5,500-square-foot home overlooking Little Traverse Bay in Harbor Springs. The homeowners, inspired by a previous Cottage Company project, asked us to transform their dated property into a sophisticated yet casual summer retreat.
The vision: a bright, welcoming home that celebrates Northern Michigan’s natural beauty and lives comfortably for both two and ten. With an open layout and multiple bedroom suites already in place, our team focused on infusing the interiors with warmth, character, and ease.
Original beadboard and shiplap were preserved and expanded throughout the home, with bright white paint creating a clean, unified backdrop. Box beam ceilings were replicated, millwork seamlessly restored, and red oak floors were refinished with custom-blended stain tones that changed with the light throughout the day.
The palette—soft blues, sea-glass greens, corals, and crisp whites—draws from the bay beyond the windows. From a marble-lined shower with a round window to a mudroom made for towels instead of boots, each space was tailored to the family’s lifestyle. A favorite feature: the covered porch with its sky-hued ceiling, designed to visually extend the view right into the living space.
