Bay Harbor Vista
When an East Coast couple with deep Michigan roots found this Victorian-style cottage in Bay Harbor, they saw beyond the dated floral wallpaper and heavy drapes. Located behind the yacht club with easy access to the beach, they envisioned a place that felt like summer where their kids could be kids – breezy, welcoming, and full of light. Living remotely in Connecticut with little time to visit the site, they turned to Cottage Company knowing they could entrust us with their renovation project – and their long-term vision.
Working with the home’s great bones, our team kept the structure mostly intact but reimagined every room to feel fresh and modern while making it all flow with style, purpose, and comfort. The kitchen became the heart of the home, now brightened with quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, and a stunning handmade tile backsplash. A cozy breakfast nook with a built-in window seat is perfect for morning coffee or extra guests at dinner.
In the primary suite, shiplap walls and wool carpeting create a quiet retreat, while the bathroom features a soaking tub, custom vanities, and soft geometric tiles for texture. Low-profile furniture keeps the focus on the views, and performance fabrics make everything durable enough for sandy feet and spontaneous gatherings.
Outside, there’s space for everything: lakeside lounging, fireside s’mores, or a family-style dinner on the porch. There’s a bunk room that sleeps six, yet the entire home is purpose-built to evolve as their children grow. Featured on the cover of Michigan Blue magazine, this once-dated cottage now feels like a modern getaway: comfortable for ten, intimate for two, and completely connected to the landscape they love.
