The Cottage Company of Harbor Springs
Hotel Janelle
The Hotel Janelle is destined to be one of the finest boutique condominium hotels in the country. Located in downtown Harbor Springs, this extraordinary property will offer 19 elegant hotel-residences for purchase. Unlike a traditional second home, with its prerequisite maintenance requirements and often vacant status, or fractional product with its scheduling complexities, owners of The Hotel Janelle will have a luxurious vacation residence at their disposal anytime, benefit from an incomparable waterfront location, enjoy amenities inspired by the world’s finest resort hotels and employ a professional hotel operator to manage the hotel-residence when it is not being occupied by the owner.

Bay Street Cottages
Introducing Bay Street Cottages, now under construction in the fairy tale city of Harbor Springs. Located downtown near sandy beaches, world class marinas, fine dining, and quaint retail shops, these storybook cottages showcase period architecture in a sensible scale. Inside, the two and three bedroom condominium residences feature remarkable finish details including extensive millwork, reclaimed oak wood floors, hand crafted cabinetry with granite countertops, Waterworks plumbing fixtures, Walker Zanger and Ann Sacks tile, custom sound system and appliances from such quality brands as Subzero, Viking, Bosch and Miele, all in an environmentally responsible project.

Harbor Cottages
This neighborhood of nine period-correct homes is located in downtown Harbor Springs. The project has been built in the traditional neighborhood genre with a single entry, garages which face an alley, pedestrian friendly features and large front porches.

Mossburg Beach Association
Located along the famous "Tunnel of Trees" this project is a model for environmentally sensitive development. Only four waterfront homes were built on almost one quarter mile of Lake Michigan frontage and three homes were constructed inland on over 100 acres. A permanent conservation easement was placed on the property to forever protect it in its natural state.

Live/Work Buildings
The Cottage Company believes that working AND living in our northern Michigan towns is not only good for business and good for our communities but also good for our environment, convenient and FUN! Accordingly, we seize opportunities to construct live/work buildings whenever we can - that is, buildings that contain commercial office or retail space on the first floor and residential space on the second floor. The live/work buildings developed by The Cottage Company have left an undeniably positive mark on the city of Harbor Springs in terms of their architecture, high quality and innovative use. One such project, the offices of the Cottage Company, was recognized by Builder Magazine as the top live/work building in the nation!

Sensitive Development
The Cottage Company believes that sensitive, smart growth is critical to maintaining the outstanding quality of life we enjoy in Northern Michigan. Accordingly, we do more than simply employ environmentally-friendly building practices. As a company, and as individuals, we take a proactive approach to protecting the fields, forests, dunes, wetlands, rivers, lakes and streams that so beautifully define our region. Examples of some of our activities include:
  • The donation of a major conservation easement to the Little Traverse Conservancy, which permanently protected more than one quarter mile of frontage along M-119, a scenic heritage route also know as the “Tunnel of Trees.”

  • The use of proceeds from a redevelopment project in downtown Harbor Springs to fund a conservation easement which permanently protected a 100-year old centennial farm from suburban sprawl.

  • The planting of enough trees, or the protection of existing ones, to replace the amount of board feet of timber used in our building projects.

  • The development of “Bay Street Cottages” in downtown Harbor Springs. This new urbanism styled project has received national acclaim as a model for environmentally-friendly, smart growth.

  • Each year, a portion of our profits are returned to local and national environmental and conservation organizations.
